They quickly went down the street and tried to join up with some other trick or treaters they met, but the new group was headed towards the house they’d just escaped from, and they knew they weren’t going back there!

By themselves again, Johnny said “Maybe we shouldn’t go trick or treating anymore.  We could just go home now.”

“No,” said Timmy.  “We’ve planned for this night a long time.  You in your Spiderman costume, and me as a race car driver.  And this is the first time Mom and Dad have let us go trick or treating by ourselves.  We can’t quit now.  We don’t want to go home without any candy!”

Johnny thought about his mother’s smiling face as she had waved goodbye to them from the front door.  “Happy Halloween!” she had called to them as they went down the walk.  How could they return with no candy?

“Ok, you’re right,” Johnny said. “So what do we do?”

“Let’s try that place on the corner,” Timmy said.  “It looks friendly.  I saw those other kids go there.”

“Ok,” agreed Johnny.

They were both still spooked as they walked toward the house on the corner.  Johnny saw a scary decoration hanging on a fence and almost screamed out.
